Why are foul line posts in the outfield like this?

They are mainly built that way for major league stadiums where the foul poles are farther away. Since they are farther away, it is harder for an umpire to see if the ball crosses in fair or foul. They are so the umpire knows that if he sees the ball hit that, then it is fair and a home run.
