Embarring ordeal, erratic flatulence..?

this happens so intermittently that I cannot pinpoint a food trigger that would cause this flare up. Painful, rotten egg smelling, well 'farts' that are quite distressing to me and my family. What besides a food trigger could be causing this? I have scrutinized my diet and cannot isolate the source. Thank you for your input on such an embarring matter!
