I think he doesn't want to stay committed and wants all of the eggs in one basket. As much as you like him just don't build up anymore feelings for him because you gonna get hurt if you do. Move on because he's not worthy of you. Just texting alone instead of telling you in purpose should tell you that he was a coward or else he would've talked to you in person. He needs to admit that he wants to have fun and doesn't want to go throughout his years in school tied down to one girl. He wants to have fun.
