What can the Cricut die-cutter do?

This will be my first purchase of a die cutter. I'm excited by what I've heard about the Cricut, and I'm considering buying it. But for the projects I'm doing right now, I need the shapes I can get with the Nestabilities (i.e. a regular square nested in a scalloped square). Can the Cricut cut shapes and a nestable scalloped shape in the same way I'd get from a Nestabilities set? Or do I have to buy 2 different machines and their parts?
